Just Schooling

Took Buddy, Mindy and Captian schooling to Summerhouse today. Here they had a round of show jumps set up and a round of arena XC jumps. I had hired it for 60 minutes which costs £40, I had my work cut out to get all three horses tacked up, schooled round, cooled off and next one off the lorry in the time allowed. Ant was there to hold one as I got the next one off the lorry and our friends Kieth and Mil also bought their horses to share the schooling, which also meant we had a spare person to put jumps up and down.

Captain has gained in confidence greatly in just the last week and felt amazing, he felt so brave and is jumping 80/90 very confidently now. Buddy is 3 months behind Captain in his training, he jumped the course with smaller fences, he was brave at the jumps but was still looking around at the advertising banners etc as he doesn’t have the miles on the clock yet. Mindy started off with some tiny fences then growing in confidence she was jumping around 80 by the time we finished. Came home pleased as it’s not often all the horses in the lorry go very well at the same time!

More Wins for Mindy

The lady is on a winning streak!!

Saturday we went with 3 horses to Hill View Arena. Buddy did two tests and was placed in both, he was still pretty green though, he has only been back in work a couple of weeks.

The beautiful Mindy, pictured below, won another prelim on 68% and then came second in the Novice on 65%, she wasn’t really ready for a Novice but it made the timings between horses a bit easier for me. Her 2nd placing was quite a surprise as she didn’t really counter canter or show much medium trot!

Then we got Dynamo out and hired the arena for 20 mins, he was as good as gold so I think he will be ready for a small competition very soon.

Sunday we took three horses Arena Eventing to Lincombe XC. This week it was a round of 8 show jumps followed by some XC jumps to include some skinnys, a drop fence, a corner and some tight lines were needed if you wanted to get the time without riding like an idiot.

Clever Mindy won the baby class and then had 4 faults in the 70 to finish in 8th place. We were also thrilled to bits to see Tracey Haines, a rider that I coach, ride a beautiful double clear to finish 7th.

Mindys 70 cm round can be seen here. Buddy came 3rd in the baby class with a double clear. Photos below are Mindy and Captain who jumped in the 80 cm with one run out, in the double, due to his fear of spectators!

Also Buddy and Mindys prizes, horse treats the perfect prize!!

Mindy Double Winner

The title of this post feels a bit of a cheat really. We took Mindy to Allens Hill to do her first ever canter tests, 2 prelims. She went really well and won both tests, it’s really odd I feel like I am riding a rather average thoroughbred (she’s half TB) but everyone else seems to see a flash horse and the dressage judges love her. What is pleasing is she’s always does everything with her ears pricked and she tries really hard.

So why do I feel like the wins were a cheat? Allens Hill now split the dressage classes into gold, silver and bronze and junior and senior, which means the sections are very very tiny, so it’s easy to win. There were 4 in Mindys one section and she was the only one in the other!! Having said that at Allens Hill they do use listed registered Judges so  the marking is a really useful and accurate guide, Mindy scored an amazing 70% and 68% which is exceptional for her first attempt at this level.

We also took Cpatain for the Eventer Training class in which he came third, this class wasn’t split and his placing was very good considering there were some top level riders in the class who were on older horses than him, he’s only just rising 4. He was extremely brave jumping but I feel he needs the fences bigger as he’s barely stepping over them at 80 cm. See his round here. The fences were quite challenging for such a baby horse and it was snowing!

Green Horses Are Hard Work

We have been busy, educating all these young horse which we seem to have collected for 2017. Hard work and they certainly test my core stability at times, I sometimes wonder why people go to a gym when they could just ride green horses to get themselves fit and educate the young horse at the same time!! I guess they would have to learn how to ride first though and a gym is much safer of course!!!

Dynamo is home and is going nicely although still needs a baby sitter to hack out, as although he’s basically a quiet horse it’s been so windy this week we dare not try him on his own yet. Windy weather is never the best conditions for fresh, inexperienced, young horses!

Captian and Mindy went to Allens Hill last week and to my amazement Mindy came second in her first competitive class, Walk and Trot B dressage with 60 cm jumping, she even beat Captain who was close on her heels in 3rd. The judge really liked her and I have to say she’s is really growing on me, the sweetest temperament, she does nothing wrong, try’s really hard, loves people and really enjoys her work. Its always nice when they do everything with their ears pricked forwards.

This week Mindy went to Hartpury where she did a super double clear in the baby SJ class to finish 3rd, she has progressed a lot since her first outing to Hartpury only two weeks ago, this weeks round can be seen here.

Then Buddy, who has been having a winter holiday, came back into work this weekend he’s had Some work in the arena at home, hopefully he will be ready to go to a low level show in a week or two.
